The map below shows the percentage of households who get water from piped water schemes. These percentages are calculated at a local municipality level, using the 2011 Census Data (Statistics South Africa, 2012), by adding the number of households who responded as obtaining water from regional/local water schemes and the number of households who responded as obtaining water from water vendors. This total was then divided by the total number of households who responded to the water source questions in the census. Click here for an interactive map:

The map below shows the percentage of households in South Africa, who do not source their water from piped water schemes. These percentages are calculated at a local municipality level, using the 2011 Census Data (Statistics South Africa, 2012), and include water sourced directly from dams, pools, stagnant water, water tanks and boreholes. This total was then divided by the total number of households who responded to the water source questions in the census, to get a percentage. Click here for an interactive map:
